Recipe box service Gousto has launched an Android app in a bid to increase convenience for its customers.
Gousto founder Timo Schmidt said the app, which will allow customers to pick recipes for delivery and manage their orders, would cater for a growing mobile market.
Schmidt revealed that 90% of the Gousto site’s traffic came from mobile phones “at peak times”. “More and more people are shopping on their smartphones, on their way to and from work, while waiting for a bus or train, and even while watching television,” he explained.
Having already launched an iPhone app, Schmidt said it was important to provide the same option for Android users.
Schmidt revealed that Gousto was keen to extend the functionality of the app to show recipes. The time that consumers accessed the recipes would provide insights into when they cooked, he added.
Schmidt said Gousto’s sales had grown by “400% to 500%” over the past year, with six million meals ordered via the company in 2015. This was despite only having 3% brand awareness in the UK, he added, which left “a lot of scope to get better and better at what we do”.
Gousto’s customers were “no different” from a supermarket shopper, Schmidt said, but were simply looking for a more convenient way to buy groceries. “They have a job to do, they live busy lives and want a healthy diet so we’re literally just taking away the writing of the shopping list and the measuring of the ingredients,” he said.
