What's your favourite restaurant? The Harrow at Little Bedwyn, Wiltshire. The owners' love of all things Spanish comes through in their dishes, and the friendly yet professional manner in which they run the front of house.

Do you prefer healthy or junk food? Healthy. There's nothing better than a ripe, juicy peach. Except perhaps a perfectly made chocolate soufflé.

Have you ever sent back a meal? Zabaglione at a trendy Italian restaurant in São Paulo. I'd always had it served warm and frothy. This place served it cold and thick. An enraged chef marched out to the table to let me know that it was perfectly acceptable to serve zabaglione cold. We agreed to disagree.

What's your favourite tipple? Dark rum - either the caramelly, spicy rums of the Caribbean, or the flavourful aged cachaças of Brazil. Over ice, with a squeeze of lime.

What would you rescue from your house if it was burning? After ensuring my husband Charles was out of the house, I'd grab as many photo albums as possible.

What are you reading? Venice, by Jan Morris. I found it such a fascinating place that I had to learn more about it.

What are your pet hates?

I really dislike Tetra Pak cartons. Especially the ones with the little straws. I get distracted, squeeze too hard and end up with juice all over me.

What's your motto for life? Life is too short to eat bad ice cream.
