Regional off licence chain Unwins has announced 100 redundancies in a major restructuring exercise. This has included senior members of the management team, including marketing and director Bill Rolfe. The jobs of all 16 regional area managers have gone and they have been invited to reapply for eight redefined posts. Chief executive David Wetz said this was the first and most difficult part of the new strategy. "In order to survive, any business has to embrace, and manage, change and we have thought long and hard about the range of options open to us. "In order to succeed and grow we have had to make some difficult business decisions." Wetz said the company would be announcing other far-reaching changes in the near future. One of these is set to be a closer collaboration with TotalFinaElf which will see dedicated Unwins sections in the petrol company's forecourt outlets. Unwins declined to give further details but it is thought there are plans for 100 such ventures. The off licence chain tested the concept in 1999 in Elf's Le Shop forecourt outlets. {{NEWS }}
