Poundland plans to open 10 new UK and Ireland stores by Christmas, and 45 within the next 12 months.
The 45 stores, which will open under Poundland’s banner in the UK and Dealz’s in Ireland, represent an investment of over £15m, according to the variety discounter.
Seven of the 10 to open by Christmas will be in the UK, employing over 150 permanent staff, Poundland said.
It comes as part of Poundland’s transformation programme, which is set to see to frozen and chilled ranges roll out 500 stores within five years, following its acquisition of Fultons Foods last month.
All the new stores will get the frozen and chilled range, along with Pep&Co clothing and homeware, Poundland said.
The transformation programme is the subject of a two-part Channel 4 documentary, Inside Poundland: Secrets from the Shop Floor, due to air next month.
“Poundland is going through the biggest transformation in our history and as part of that we’ve got ambitious plans to open new stores across the country where we can be a vital part of the retail community,” said Poundland MD Barry Williams.
“We’ve broadened our ranges in groceries and household products and we’ve introduced Pep&Co clothing and homeware, which means our customers can buy more of what they need under one roof.
“We aim to bring amazing value to our customers every day and are proud to be playing our part in keeping our town centres and retail parks alive and making them places where people want to shop.”
