Butter and milk powder made using milk from Westbury Dairies’ direct suppliers is still being quarantined while investigations continue into an alleged poisoning.

Wiltshire police are trying to identify a caller who contacted farmer co-op First Milk on November 3 claiming he had adulterated milk heading to Westbury (The Grocer, November 8, p11). Tests conducted at the former United Milk plant have so far proved negative, but processed products are still not being released from store.

Milk from other suppliers is now being processed elsewhere, said a spokeswoman.

She declined to comment on the commercial impact of the scare, but a swift resolution was critical, she added.
