John Liptrot has left his job as sales director for the delivered wholesale business at AF Blakemore after just over a year in the post.

Liptrot, formerly MD of the now defunct buying group Key Lekkerland, is taking up the role of MD of Freshstores (Retail), which runs 19 Cadbury outlet shops in shopping malls.

It will be the first time he has worked in consumer-facing retail, having spent his 30-year career to date in wholesale. "It will be an exciting new opportunity for me," he told The Grocer. "It's an expanding business and I hope I can help it open more shops."

Liptrot's job at Blakemore was to drive the growth of its delivered business, which had ambitious targets to increase turnover from £30m to £100m in five years.

While at Blakemore, Liptrot oversaw the opening of Blakemore's first national distribution centre for its delivered wholesale business an 83,000 sq ft site near Walsall. He also secured new contracts for Blakemore Wholesale, such as Rippleglen and Asco, and worked on the development of an online ordering facility. He had been tempted to move by the prospect of running his own company, he added.

Blakemore refused to comment on Liptrot's departure but is advertising for his replacement. It is looking for "a proven leader who can build a team and drive an aggressive expansion plan over the next three to five years".
