John Bridge had been appointed chair designate of the UK's new statutory agricultural and horticultural levy board.
He will play a leading role in setting up the new board, which is set to replace five existing levy boards - the British Potato Council, the Meat and Livestock Commission, the Milk Development Council, the Horticultural Development Council, and the Home Grown Cereals Authority - before it assumes its full statutory responsibilities in April 2008.
Bridge has more than 40 years experience of working in the private, public and academic sectors, and sits on a number of private and public sector boards.
