News International, publisher of The Times and The Sun, has appointed Katharine Challinor as head of retail strategy.
The appointment follows the publisher and distributor's decision in May this year to launch a direct-to-retail service in Greater London and Birmingham.
Challinor moves up from senior retail trade marketing manager at News International. She previously worked for Natmags.
Challinor will be responsible for identifying and developing strategies and tactics for increasing sales. She will also provide best-practice guidelines to increase frequency of purchase, as well as building independent retailers' home delivery business.
"Through improving display, prompting purchase and offering a better home news delivery service, we can enjoy a fruitful partnership where both News International and retailers benefit," she said.
