The Fabulous Bakin' Boys has bought its supplier out of administration and has appointed former Inter Link Foods director Robin Mountain to head the new operation as manufacturing director.
The deal was done just before Christmas after supplier Fabulous Bakin' Boys Manufacturing (FBBM) went into administration.
Mountain has now been charged with implementing manufacturing systems and procedures to cope with the growing demand. He was previously operations director at cake maker Inter Link Foods, which was bought by Irish bakery McCambridge Foods last July.
"Mountain has huge experience in the baking industry and will bring superb management skills and experience to the new role," said Fabulous Bakin' Boys MD Gary Frank. "This is our 10th year of business and with Mountain at the helm of our own plant we can make real our plans for NPD and new ventures."
Despite the similar name, FBBM had been separate from The Fabulous Bakin' Boys, although the production plant and brand owner were located next door to each other near Oxford.
FBBM was struggling to cope with growing demand, said Frank, after year-on-year sales of cup cakes soared 29.5% to £6.4m. "The business grew too quickly without sufficient management resource to cope with the growing popularity of our products," said Frank. "The acquisition is a fabulous opportunity for us as we now have full control of our production operation and are in a position to make significant investment in the business."
