What was your first-ever job?
Working in the local butchers. I learnt a lot about how it is possible to make cheap burgers and why you should never buy them.
What was your worst job interview?
Since college I've only ever had one real job interview that I thoroughly enjoyed. All the others have been 'conversations'. The interviewer had his feet up on a desk, smoked, asked about my sexuality and whether I had a death wish. We've all become far too politically correct.
What was the first music single you bought?
I'm sad to say, Video Killed the Radio Star by Buggles. My musical tastes haven't improved, much to the amusement of my colleagues.
How do you describe your job to your mates?
I run a business that sells a range of products under the brand name One bottled water, condoms, loo roll, soap and then give away all the profits to fund like-for-like humanitarian projects eg One Water funds water projects in Africa. This year, in partnership with our customers, we'll have given away £6m and have changed 1.5 million people's lives. I also make the tea.
What is the most rewarding part of your job?
Being given the latitude to imagine the future and then trying to run quickly towards it.
What is the least rewarding part?
Not being able to run fast enough.
What is your motto in life?
Go for it (provided your legs aren't going to fall off). It's worthy of a longer explanation.
If you were allowed one dream perk what would it be?
To have my pick of the best talent in the UK and to be unrestricted in my ability to bring them into the business.
What's your favourite movie and why?
The Dambusters. It reminds me of my childhood and demonstrates the ability for people to succeed against the odds.
Do you have any phobias?
Heights. However, I've got a parapenting licence and have skydived and bungee-jumped in the past.
What luxury would you have on your desert island?
My motorbike and an endless supply of fuel. It survived a round-the-world trip and has appeared on Indian television with me riding down a beach complete with a cameraman on the pillion so it's pretty good on the sand.
What animal best reflects your personality?
A former managing director of mine said that I was like a terrier I just wouldn't let go of things.
