What was your first-ever job? Working in a clothes store called Pitlochry Knitwear Ilkley (part of the Edinburgh Woollen Group) selling kilts and cardigans to the over-50s. The pinnacle was a 99% mystery shop score (point lost for unpolished shoes).
What was your worst job interview? Not the worst, but I was once asked which item I would take to a desert island. Surely a boat? I think I got points for logical thinking.
What was the first music single you bought? Salt-n-Pepa's Let's Talk About Sex and I'll even admit to still knowing all the words.
How do you describe your job to friends? Buyer of vitamins for Holland & Barrett.
What is the most rewarding part of your job? Developing new health products I know will help people's lifestyles, then seeing projects through to completion and exceeding forecasted sales. As we work with suppliers around the world, it can be a long but very rewarding process when a line exceeds expectations.
What is the least rewarding? When an item you are passionate about just doesn't work.
What's your nickname? Em. Imaginative, I know!
If you were allowed one dream perk, what would it be? To have the same level of expertise and fitness as the professional sports people we work with daily. Holland & Barrett has a partnership with Leicester Tigers Rugby Club, and it's inspiring to work with people at the peak of fitness.
What's your favourite movie? Legally Blonde.
Do you have any phobias? Spiders and car washes.
Which celebrity would you like to join your staff? Gethin Jones, the presenter who stars in our TV advertising, knows so much about vitamins now he could do a good job advising people in store. But someone who achieves their goals and is constantly seeking new ways to do things would be good, so I'll take David Beckham.
If you could change one thing in grocery what would it be? The laws under which health claims can be made on certain natural products are necessary, but can restrict new customers from finding out about supplements that can benefit them. Talking to customers, explaining products and providing advice is a core value of our business and I would like the laws to be as transparent as the advice we give.
What animal best reflects your personality and why? With the amount of honey our business sells every year sometimes I do feel like a worker bee.
