James Osgood,
marketing director at Peter’s Food, on Bob Geldof, bull terriers and climbing Kilimanjaro
What did you want to be when you were a kid? I wanted to be something like a dentist or a fighter pilot. You get the picture!
What was your first-ever job? Lifeguard at a local pool. It was great fun and was a great start for my CV.
What is the worst job you've ever had? I was a cleaner in a hospital during my student days. It was awful.
What was your worst job interview? For a biscuit company. On the drive to the factory I asked myself whether I really wanted to make this drive on a Monday morning. The answer was no, but I carried on and met the two interviewers. I started the interview saying exactly that. I was thanked for my honesty and we had a nice chat for 20 minutes and parted wishing each other the best. That's as bad as it has got thankfully.
What's your best interview tip? Engage from the first to the last interaction and have integrity.
You've 25 words to describe your career. Despite some bumps in the road I've had a fulfilling, rewarding, exciting and challenging career. I've made great friends along the way and I've gained some great experience.
If you could change one thing in grocery what would it be? The idea pedalled to consumers that supermarkets are bad. It is nonsense.
If you didn't work in grocery where would you work? I'd work in a brand agency.
What is your motto in life? I don't have a motto but I always see the opportunity, not the problem. It's the way I look at life full stop.
What do you like to do outside work? At the moment I walk. I'm taking part in the Captain's Climb up Kilimanjaro in September. But spending time with my young family is my favourite past-time.
What's your nickname? Oz or Pocket. Oz is short for my surname and Pocket because I'm pocket-sized.
Which celebrity would you pick to join your staff? Bob Geldof. He doesn't negotiate or compromise and gets done what needs to be done.
What would you request as your final meal? Barbecued sardines from the Med, a steak from CraftSteak in New York, then a tub of Ben & Jerry's for dessert.
What's the weirdest thing you've eaten? A tagine and couscous in Morocco. I ate too much and was put off both for life.
What animal best reflects your personality and why? A Staffordshire bull terrier. They're friendly, determined, don't give up and can handle most situations in life.
