What was your first job? A paper round. I earned £8 a week and still managed to save for a week in Newquay.
What was your worst job interview? I once had an interview at a company my dad worked for and actually had to be interviewed by him, which was strange. He did give me the job, though!
How do you describe your job to your mates? I'm lucky enough to work with some of Britain's best-loved sweets, managing iconic brands such as Sherbet Fountain and Refreshers, as well as developing new ideas.
What is the most rewarding part of your job? I get the opportunity to be creative every day. I work with some great teams to develop products, experimenting with flavours and concepts and turning them into packaged goods. Making something people want to buy and seeing our sweets on shelf is always very rewarding.
What is the least rewarding part? Using spreadsheets they hurt my eyes.
What is your motto in life? If you don't like it, change it.
What's your nickname? I have numerous nicknames in fact, I rarely get called Laura but Burty is probably the most commonly used.
If you were allowed one dream perk what would it be? I am surrounded by tasty sweets everyday that's a huge perk in itself! But if I could eat them by the side of a swimming pool in 30 degree heat at lunchtime that would be extra-special.
What's your favourite movie and why? Anything with Tom Hanks in it. Big is a particular favourite I love adults behaving like children, expressing their daft sides!
What has been the most embarrassing moment in your life? On a school trip to a trout farm I fell in the pond in front of my whole class and had to spend the ride home smelling of fish!
Do you have any phobias? Clowns especially the really manic ones.
If you could pick a celebrity to join your staff who would it be and why? Johnny Depp. His creative brain would be really handy plus he's quite easy on the eye.
If you could change one thing in the grocery industry what would it be? I would make the balance between price and quality expectation more level.
What luxury would you have on your desert island? My iPod. I couldn't be in those surroundings without music.
