Why did you decide to go for a career in food? I decided to go for a career in the food industry because there are so many career prospects. At SNB Electronics, no day is the same. Every day there are lots of new and different jobs with their own set of challenges.
Explain your job to us in a sentence (or two): My role, as an electronics engineer, is to fault find and repair circuit boards for customers’ machines. Also, I help to tune machines that have specific requirements.
What does a typical day look like for you? A typical day for me would range from repairing circuit boards to refitting them to either metal detectors, checkweighers or combination systems. Other days, I could be tuning machines to operate to certain customer requirements.
Tell us how you went about applying for your job. I initially saw the job advertised online, so I decided to email SNB with a copy of my CV. I received a call and was asked if I would like to attend an interview. My line manager and mentor took me around the workshop, showing me the different kinds of services and products SNB are able to supply to their customers. Afterwards, I had the opportunity to tell SNB a little about me and what I had achieved in my career so far. A few days later, I received a call from SNB who offered me the role.

What is the best part about working for a food company? The best part about working for a company involved in the food industry is there’s always a wide range of jobs to be completed. On a day-to-day basis, I get to help fix machines from customers at start-up companies all the way through to national food manufacturers that supply to all the big supermarket brands. I never end up having the same day twice at SNB!
What’s the biggest misconception people have about working in food & drink? They do not realise all the regulations in place. Our machines are specifically built to ensure the products that leave the factory doors are safe for the public to consume.
What advice would you give to other young people looking to get into the food & drink industry? Personally, I would advise young people to get into the food and drink industry because there are so many job prospects. There are different ways to get involved in the industry with all sorts of jobs to choose from.
What’s your ultimate career goal? By the end of my career, I would like to finish in a higher position within engineering at SNB. Hopefully by this point I will have a wider set of skills to be able to fix inspection equipment.
