Roy Goodall, former chairman of the Independent Manufacturers Alliance, died on Saturday, 13 January.
Goodall was 69 and had worked in the grocery industry for 40 years, holding a number of senior roles.
He began his career with Nabisco Foods and then held senior roles with Reckitt & Coleman (now Reckitt Benckiser) and OP Chocolate. He was also chief executive of McCormick Foods UK and chairman of Leckpatrick Dairies in Northern Ireland.
An entrepreneur at heart, his greatest success was with Stateside Foods, the north west-based pizza manufacturer, where he led a management buyout in the early 1990s.
Through Stateside Foods he was a founder member of the Independent Manufacturers Alliance, where he held the role of chairman from 1996 to 2004. Under his leadership, the group grew from a handful of pioneers to more than 120 grocery suppliers.
"Roy's vision and drive were a major factor in the growth and development of the group. He will be sorely missed," said Steve Haslett, managing director of the IMA. He was also on the board of the Confederation of British Industry in Manchester and a member of the Institute of Directors.
"Roy was a wonderfully proud and determined man. He will be sorely missed by those who had the good fortune to know him," said family members Phil, Simon and Keeley Goodall.
