Hannah Carter Oggs CEO

Name: Hannah Carter

Job title: CEO

Company: Oggs

What was your first job? Marketing assistant at a medical company. My friends were going to glamorous beauty dinners and I was going to the Lindsay Leg Ulcer dinner! We did help a lot of people though…

What’s been your worst job interview? I applied for the role of marketing assistant of Shell, and when they asked me why I’m passionate about oil, I had to say to them ‘I’m not. I don’t think you should give me the job.’

What was the first music single you bought? ‘Let’s Get Ready to Rhumble’ – PJ & Duncan. I am old enough to remember Byker Grove!

How do you describe your job to your friends? Enabling my team to be the best they can be, whilst also being a jack of all trades and master of none!

“I think people would make difference choices if they knew their muffins have barn egg in, or poor-welfare pork gelatine in their sweets”

What is the most rewarding part of your job? Realising that we are actually doing what we set out to do, which is to create a kinder, more sustainable world. It will never be finished, but we’re taking micro steps in that direction.

What is the least rewarding part? Admin! I am useless at it in every way. Dyslexic with a short attention span. Admin is not my strength!

What is your motto in life? Stay present. We can achieve anything when we remain present. It’s our worries that stop us from being who we truly are, so just ignore them and do it anyway.

If you were allowed one dream perk, what would it be? A yoga instructor to come in at 1pm every day and run a session for me!

Do you have any phobias? Spiders! Although, the ‘staying present’ thing has helped a lot with my phobia.

If you could change one thing in grocery, what would it be? That companies would have to call out animal welfare on their packs, as well as nutritional value.

Humans don’t mean to harm animals, and I think people would make difference choices if they knew their muffins have barn egg in, or poor-welfare pork gelatine in their sweets.

What luxury would you have on a desert island? My pillow. A good night’s sleep is the answer to every problem in the world, no matter your age!

What animal most reflects your personality? I would like to say an elephant. Protective, elegant, strong. But I think my friends and family would say Dory from Finding Nemo (head in hands!).

What’s your favourite film and why? I would say Top Gun: Maverick – it’s ultimately about camaraderie, forgiveness, and pushing beyond your self-set limits. There are also some epic flight scenes!

What has been the most embarrassing moment in your life? During the first 12 weeks of launching with Sainsbury’s, the buyer asked us to come back with our vision for the brand. I said she should put Oggs in 681 Sainsbury’s superstores. She said “I’d love to, Hannah, but we only have 618…” I then followed that meeting up with sending them our Tesco pitch (head in hands).

Which celebrity would you most like to work with and why? Ricky Gervais – as controversial as he may be, he doesn’t allow mankind to ignore the ridiculousness of who we are at times, and calls us out with his comedy. He’s also fiercely committed to animal welfare and uses his influence to create positive change.

What would your death row meal be? Mushroom pie and mash, then molten chocolate dessert and ice cream to finish – all vegan of course!
