Name: Denise Waite
Job title: Head of human resources
Company name: Nom Dairy
HQ location: Telford, Shropshire
Number of employees: 850
What's it like to work for your company? Exciting and fast-paced. Having built a new business from the ground up, we have developed a strong sense of camaraderie and drive to succeed. While we are new to the UK, our parent company in Austria was founded in 1900 and gives us a firm foundation on which to build and grow.
Why is it a good employer? Everyone within Nom shares the same values of flexibility, support and a passion for quality. Some 42% of our employees have been recommended by existing employees and this speaks volumes in terms of Nom as an employer.
What's the best thing about working there? Each employee at NOM is passionate about their work and proud to work for the company. We genuinely care about one-another and the products we create.
If the company were a car what would it be? A BMW, because of its state-of-the-art technology and high performance. It is also environmentally conscious, recognised as the best and brand proud.
What's the training like? Training begins on day one and includes core modules such as food safety, which is vital for working in our dairy and results in a nationally recognised qualification, together with skill-specific and management development modules. We have now launched our engineering apprenticeship scheme and in 2010 will extend that to food production and other specialist functions.
Has the company won any awards as an employer? Nom Dairy was a finalist for 'Diversity in Recruitment' in the Food Manufacture Excellence Awards, 2009.
What's your proudest achievement of the past 12 months? Helping to transform a Shropshire field into a state-of-the-art dairy that is supplying all major retailers and producing quality yoghurt!
What is the most biggest HR challenge at the moment? We aim to boost our workforce to 500 employees in the next five years. We therefore need to ensure we attract and retain the best talent and also maintain our renowned work ethic and culture.
Are you looking for any people right now? With our five-year growth plan, we are always looking for talented individuals at all levels and in all areas.
How does one apply for a job? Send your CV to jobs@nomdairy.co.uk with a covering letter, or request an application form from the same address.
What tips would you offer job seekers? Ensure that your CV is up-to-date, accurate and succinct. Always include a covering letter that highlights the skills and experience relevant to the role for which they are applying. Research on the company prior to an interview is vital too.
