Is there a definable company culture? Our owner and MD Christian Nissen is Danish so Highland Game has a Scandinavian-influenced company culture.
If the company were a car what would it be and why? A Range Rover top of the range, powerful and stylish.
What's the training like and what qualifications can I earn? All office staff have the opportunity to present any work-related courses or training they are interested in for approval by the management. Our IT support company also offers all types of computer courses in accountancy and office programs.
Has the company won any awards? Not any direct employer awards but the four Scottish Food & Drink Awards have acted as staff awards. Highland Game has also just been shortlisted for the 2010 Quality Food Awards in the fresh meat, game and poultry section for our delicious larder trimmed fillet of venison. We are also shortlisted in the 2010 IGD National Food Industry Awards in the Outstanding Small Business category.
What's your proudest achievement of the past 12 months? I suggested we should produce a healthy lower-salt, low-fat venison sausage for Scottish Slimmers. We launched Wildly Healthy Venison Sausages now our number two retail product, stocked in many supermarkets in Scotland.
What is the most challenging HR issue? Due to our takeover in July of the UK's largest venison and game processor business from Rick Bestwick, a lot of changes are being implemented. Sometimes it is more difficult to get your own staff to adjust than getting suppliers and customers to adopt your new system.
Are you looking for any people right now? Not at the moment but we always have demand for good butchers who can live up to our butchery standards.
