What's it like to work for your company? I have been with Genesis for just over seven years and every year just gets more exciting as the brand evolves. Each day brings a different challenge and because the bakery is constantly developing every year, this has brought new more exciting elements to my job role. I am fortunate to be able to work for such a progressive family business.
Why is it a good employer? Having an employer who listens to your ideas and helps to supports your career development is crucial. The time I have spent with Genesis has allowed me to grow into a more confident individual due to the high degree of satisfaction I gain from my work.
What's the best thing about working there? Aside from sampling all NPD? The best thing is being part of a family business. The extraordinary degree of passion can't be matched in a large global corporation.
Does the company offer any unusual benefits? On occasion we get the opportunity to bake our own scones under supervision, with intriguing results such as Mars bar scones.
How does the company differ from its rivals? We aren't a plant bakery. For us, baking is the perfect mix of creativity and science. We use only the finest quality ingredients, combined with care and attention. Plus I don't think there is another bakery in the UK that can claim to have six brothers on the payroll.
Is there a definable company culture? It's a pretty nice place to work, we all come together for morning tea break where we might come up with new ideas and everyone's feedback is considered. Once a year we have a family fun day and BBQ where we can all relax unless of course you are organising it!
If the company were a car what would it be and why? A Mini small, agile, quirky and most of all fun!
Has the company won any awards? We have been regular finalists in the Bakery Industry Awards over the last 10 years and have gained a number awards for NPD. We hold IIP and BRC accreditations and this year are finalists in the Deloitte Best Managed Companies Awards, which will be announced in March.
Are you looking for any people right now and, if so, where? We are looking for a confident KAM (key account manager) who understands the brand values and is highly motivated to join our small but highly energised team.
What tips would you offer jobseekers? Knowledge is king, and I just don't mean looking at a web site. Investigate a little further. This illustrates commitment and genuine interest.
Is the company working on anything exciting right now? We are looking at some interesting ways to target our core customer in the UK. Social media is one avenue but we are also keen to meet and greet our target audience so will be planning outings for this summer.
