Name: Michael Ladd
Job title: Head of HR
Company: Adnams
HQ: Southwold, Suffolk
Number of employees: 420
What's it like to work for your company? Adnams is a dynamic, innovative business. We have been brewing in Southwold since 1872, but our business now incorporates five hotels, 70 pubs, and ten Adnams Cellar & Kitchen stores and is continually evolving.
Why is it a good employer? There's a family feel and everyone is allowed to shine as an individual. We have a values-driven approach.
Does the company offer any unusual benefits? Six years ago we established our Holistic Living scheme, which encourages health and wellbeing. An occupational therapist works with employees, and we offer blood pressure, glucose and cholesterol checks.
How does the company differ from its rivals? I think what helps us stand out is that we're all about building lasting relationships and giving customers a good experience.
Is there a definable company culture? It's very open and honest. People can say what they like and some of our best ideas come from our employees.
If the company were a car what would it be and why? Probably an Audi, as it's a solid, premium and reliable brand. At Adnams, we're very aware of our impact on the environment, so it would have to be as energy efficient as possible.
What's the training like and what qualifications can I earn? Cellar & Kitchen store staff all receive Wine & Spirit Education Trust training and where required we also offer health & safety and food hygiene qualifications.
Has the company won any awards or been recognised in the past few years as an employer? We've been very lucky to have won awards for everything from our CSR successes through to our retail performance and customer service.
Are you looking for any people right now and, if so, where? Right now we're looking for business development managers in London and East Anglia.
How does one go about applying for a job? The best way is to apply is through our website, or simply write in with your CV.
What tips would you offer jobseekers? Be yourself. Being authentic and proud of who you are is always impressive and helps us understand whether the candidate is a good fit for us.
How do I find out more about the company? Our website is a good source of information, or if you're really keen, come up to Southwold where you can visit one of our shops, eat in our pubs and even do a brewery tour!
Is the company, working on anything exciting right now that you can tell us about? We've just added a small distillery. We're the first brewery in the UK to brew beer and distil spirits on the same premises, as well as one of the few to undertake the whole process in-house. At the moment we have five handcrafted gins and vodkas, and there will be a whiskey at a later date.
