What's it like to work for your company? Challenging, in the current environment. We are a local, independent, family-owned business and intend to stay this way. It's exciting!
Why is it a good employer? Because we run pubs, as well as selling bottled beer in retail, we have a big focus on people. As we are local we are able to integrate with the community.
Does the company offer any unusual benefits? An annual beer allowance.
How does the company differ from its rivals? We have focused on craft as an underpinning of our business. We like to preserve our living heritage as we feel this gives us a point of difference. We are also upgrading our computer systems, so what is quaint on the outside is highly effective on the inside.
Is there a definable company culture? We have an independent family business mindset and manage our people through a development culture called "Brewing Potential".
If the company were a car what would it be and why? A Bentley strong on quality and heritage, but evolving in order to appeal to a new consumer and remain relevant.
What's the training like and what qualifications can I earn? We have a bespoke training centre called the White Lion, which offers a number of courses from wine and spirit education trust qualifications to food hygiene, personal license holders, door staff training and advanced Beer and Cellar Quality awards.
What's your proudest achievement of the past 12 months? Getting the business to accept that the only constant is change and becoming official sponsors of Bath Rugby Club.
What is currently your most challenging HR issue? We are preparing for a roles and responsibilities review where we will be looking at the tasks undertaken by each member of the business, how our new computer system will affect this, and how people will need to be developed and managed as a consequence.
Are you looking for any people right now and, if so, where? We don't have any outstanding vacancies at the moment in the brewery, but we're always looking for people either at HO, to run our managed pubs or take on a tenancy.
How does one go about applying for a job? Send a CV through our website www.wadworth.co.uk or if you want to run a pub go to www.wadworthpubs.co.uk.
What tips would you offer jobseekers? Understand our business, visit a couple of our pubs and understand how you can add value.
Is the company working on anything exciting you can tell us about? We are just starting with the Bath Rugby Club sponsorship, which allows us to do sampling and for staff to meet the players. We also have some interesting NPD in the pipeline for our beers, but at the moment we have to keep that a secret. Sorry.
