What's it like to work for your company? While some of the issues we focus on are slow burning, many are fast paced and can change hour by hour. Our role is extremely varied. We work with a wide range of stakeholders from industry, government and NGOs to create the right environment for our members' businesses to thrive.

Why is it a good employer? FDF has a good programme of employee engagement. Senior managers have open door slots, there are regular staff meetings and a managers' forum to share best practice.

What's the best thing about working there? Without a doubt, it's the people. We have recognised experts who are extremely dedicated and do a fantastic job of lobbying to ensure our members' businesses continue to flourish. There is a real focus on making sure everyone feels appreciated by the business whether it's celebrating the birth of a baby or staff involvement in charity activities.

Does the company offer any unusual benefits? There's a strong focus on workplace wellbeing. The organisation has walking and running clubs, health assessments and a gym subsidy scheme.

How does the company differ from its rivals? I worked for the NFU before and, while it's not a rival as such, I have noticed some big differences. FDF has a clear policy focus around its four pillars and members have high but achievable expectations.

Is there a definable company culture? I would say that that it's responsible, collegiate and focused on the members.

If the company were a car what would it be? A next generation hybrid because they are high performance, innovative and take sustainability seriously.

What's the training like? We have a healthy training budget which helps our staff stay at the forefront of their specialty.

Has the company won any awards? I'm more interested in what our members think of the job we're doing for them than chasing after public affairs or PR awards. We run our own awards the Community Partnership Awards.

What's your proudest achievement of the past 12 months? Securing this role at FDF!

What tips would you offer job seekers? So few candidates I meet these days, especially for public affairs roles, have had a 'proper job' and, if they have, are often a little embarrassed by it. If it's appropriate, use that experience at interview; it might be the point of difference you need in a very competitive market.

Are you working on anything exciting at the moment? We have been running a careers campaign called 'Taste success A future in food' and we're about to enter the digital phase of that work to engage with young people through social media.
