The National Federation of Retail Newsagents has appointed Sam Whiteside as national president, replacing Mahendra Jadeja.
Whiteside has been a prominent member of the NFRN since joining in 1989. He has held the roles of vice president of Mersey Dee, North Wales and Isle of Man District, and has been a national councillor since 1997. In June 2004 he was elected deputy vice president of the organisation.
He is also a director of NFRN Mutual and has been chairman of the newstrade and marketing and media committees.
Whiteside said his key aim would be to increase membership, as well as helping current members not only to survive, but to grow their businesses in a fiercely competitive market.
He added: "I am also committed to improving communication at all levels. The highlight of this will be the launch of the new NFRN web site later this year, but it will also encompass members and trade relations with relevant bodies."
