Fortnum & Mason has decked out its new 1,000 sq ft Heathrow store, its first ever standalone airport venture, with a savoury counter selling chilled products including smoked salmon and caviar. The store will target travellers with its range, but also stocks a selection of products from Fortnum’s flagship Piccadilly store- including the retailer’s popular hampers.
Next to the shop, the new Fortnum & Mason bar will be selling products from a range of fresh, seasonal food and drink based on Fortnum’s collection in its food halls at Piccadilly. The bar will open from first flight to last flight.
“Heathrow is the UK’s hub airport and the first impression of the country for more than 35 million passengers a year,” said Fortnum & Mason chief executive Ewan Venters last July, when the new store and bar were first announced. “At Fortnum’s we have three centuries’ experience of serving customers travelling the globe, so it’s fitting we should now serve passengers flying to some of the world’s most glamorous locations, including the likes of New York, Hong Kong and Istanbul, and of course, Dubai.”
Fortnum has also created a new ‘Explorer’s Blend’ fine tea exclusively for its new store. The new blend uses flavours from around the world, namely Ceylon (Nuwara Eliya), Kenya, China (Green Jasmine), and India (Assam).
Fortnum’s latest expansion follows the retailer opening a new store in St Pancras International last year.
