Poundland is set to open its biggest-ever store, at 15,000 sq ft, in Nottingham on 12 February.
The store in Riverside Retail Park was previously home to out-of-town multi-fascia concept Outfit, housing Dorothy Perkins, Topman, Topshop, Burton and Miss Selfridge, before Arcadia Group fell into administration in 2020.
It’s about three times the size of an average Poundland and will employ 75 full or part-time staff.
Poundland, which holds increasing basket spend at the core of its strategy, is hoping the store will encourage bigger shops, and has given it a ‘super-sized’ trolley to push the message.
“It’s a bit of fun, but we wanted to show that our fantastic new store will enable people to do more of their shopping in a single trip,” said store manager Chris Henshaw.
A transformation programme at Poundland has seen it evolve significantly since 2019, with new price points and ranges, from frozen and chilled food to homewares and electronics.
The variety discounter has promised to reveal more details of the ranges that will fill the 15,000 sq ft new unit closer to the opening date.
