Wing Yip is doubling the size of its Croydon depot and adding a fresh, modernised layout.
After buying an acre of land behind the site, the oriental wholesaler decided to expand the site from 41,000 sq ft to 75,000 sq ft, adding more store, warehouse and car parking space.
“Because the store has been open for 20 years, obviously the nature of the customers’ needs have changed,” said director Henry Yip.
“Now customers are more adventurous, we’re changing the layout and the ambience and expanding the range,” Yip added. “The interest in oriental foods continues to grow and the range continues to grow, there is still a lot of opportunity to cater to even more than we already do.”
With an investment in excess of £10m, the phased building work on the depot is expected to begin in July, and the Croydon store will remain open.
In the same month, building work will also begin at the Wing Yip store in Cricklewood, North London. A slight extension will expand it from 57,000 sq ft to 73,000 sq ft to provide more operational space, relocate the goods in yard and create a new access road.
