Asda’s message is that there should be something for everyone at the Christmas table. The retailer has gone all-out to make more of its recipes gluten and dairy-free and it has introduced a wealth of new plant-based options for consumers with vegan lifestyles. It has also updated Christmas classics with modern twists and new flavours, here’s our pick of the range
Asda has not yet set RSPs for the Christmas range
Extra Special Heather Honey and Black Pepper Smoked Salmon
Farmed and cured in Scotland, this salmon is smoked in a brick kiln over Applewood chips for 15 hours and hung using traditional methods for a drier, less oily mouthfeel. It’s then finished with Scottish heather honey and garnished with black pepper which creates “an irresistible fusion of smoky and sweet flavours” according to Asda.
Butcher’s Selection Gammon Joint with a Sour Cherry Glaze
Inspired by the growing Christmas trend for Black Forest flavours, this gammon joint is cured in a “unique brine” for succulence and finished with a high-shine, sticky sour cherry glaze.
Extra Special Ultimate Pig in a Blanket
Coming in at a foot long, this impressive British Red Tractor pork sausage wrapped with dry cured, oak smoked streaky bacon will serve up to ten people at the Christmas dinner table. The sausage is gluten-free and flavoured with ginger, nutmeg and pimento.
Cabra Al Vino
Made with goat’s milk, this mild cheese is soaked in and injected with red wine which gives it a deep burgundy colour and smooth texture. The cheese is pictured above (far right) alongside the new Triple Crème Blue (top left).
Extra Special Gingerbread Gin Liqueur
This glittery liqueur combines Asda’s own-label Extra Special Triple Distilled Premium Gin with gingerbread flavouring. The retailer recommends this 20% abv liqueur is served on its own for sipping or topped up with bubbly.
Chicken Laksa Roses
Inspired by growing demand for Asian-fusion flavours, these pre-dinner canapés are wrapped in vibrantly coloured pastry shaped into a rose and filled with chicken in a rich lemongrass and coconut curry sauce. The roses are pictured above (left) alongside the fried chicken dim sum collection in red, yellow and green curry sauce variants.
Vegan Chocolate Caramel Pots
One of several vegan launches for Christmas, these individual desserts are filled with chocolate ganache and salted caramel sauce which Asda believes will satisfy even non-vegans for dessert. The plant-based pots are topped with iridescent glitter and golden date pieces.
