Sainsbury’s is manifesting summer, launching a new Taste the Difference range that doubles down on smoke, spice and burgers and BBQ. The collection covers from tapas and mezze to slow-cooked BBQ - and new cocktails to wash it all down.

World food fusion continues to drive flavour trends, with products tapping into Middle Eastern, South Asian and Latin American influences - from zhoug-dressed wings to chorizo with Pedro Ximenez sherry glaze. “People are becoming much more adventurous by introducing new and exciting flavours from all over the world to their barbecues,” says Polly Davies, head of category at Florette UK

And there’s no shortage of meat in this launch with new waygu burgers, butter chicken kebabs and hot honey pork belly slices on offer, the retailer is going big on barbecue. It follows last year’s report by Florette that shows the old stereotypes of men being the kings of the grill seem to be true. The report shows men do the grilling at nearly two-thirds (62%) of barbecues – making bold Sainsbury’s new centrepieces like dino ribs and pork platters a savvy move for capturing grill-minded male shoppers.

“Developed to transform very summer gathering into a culinary adventure, the range includes 30 new products, featuring rich and diverse flavours of the Mediterranean and global cuisines,” says Claire Hughes, director of own brand product innovation at Sainsbury’s as she invites shoppers to “picture yourself savouring the flavours of a Spanish sunset dinner, relishing coastal dining, or hosting an al fresco picnic.”
