13 (15) McCain
Sales: £304.6m +6.9%
McCain had a sad start to 2013 when founder Charles ‘Mac’ McCarthy passed away on New Year’s Eve.
He’d have been proud to see McCain help itself to another big portion of chip sales in 2013 though, despite hiking prices by 17.1%. It launched five-minute oven chips and shelf-barkers that emit the aroma of buttery baked potatoes as shoppers wander by.
It ended 2013 on a cheerier note with a ‘Happy Days’ promotion built around a ‘Chips’ jumper for sale in Primark.
