Frozen fish prices are rising fast. So although Young’s has sold about a million (1.3%) fewer units, value is still up by a solid £6m. Growth isn’t purely inflationary. Sub-brand Chip Shop has recovered, supplementing the strong performance of the more premium Gastro line. Gastro itself was the focus of further investment, with NPD in the form of trendy melting middle fish cakes and a new line of “super-premium” shellfish including fruits de mer and king prawns & scallops in butter sauces.
