Last year’s ranking: 39
Sales: £171.8m (-2.4%)
John West netted £4.2m less than last year, despite average price rises of more than 25p across its range. According to the brand, the rises were largely down to the increase in global fish prices and the flux in sterling since the Brexit vote. The more pressing issue is the 13 million drop in unit sales. John West is now highlighting its health credentials in a bid to reverse the decline, launching a light version of its fridge pack and investing in radio adverts that promote the health benefits of oily fish.
