Interesting that Lincoln is one of the stores where this is being put out for consultation.

There's a brand new store opening there in the next few weeks, to replace an old store that's in a dreadful state. The attitude of the staff there has been awful for many years, and it looked as if Tesco had abandoned their plans for the new store.

Then the game changed - Aldi opened next door a couple of years back. Much lower prices, much nicer store, much nicer staff. So inevitably a large amount of the trade Tesco thought of as 'captive' walked next door. That's where all the smart cars are now, and Tesco is now the downmarket poor relation!

So Tesco decided they had to rebuild, but it's too late. It will be a large white elephant, because nobody who's discovered Aldi is going to pay Tesco 30% more much for the same products,

And if they're cutting the staff's pay, imagine what that will do for customer service! Aldi staff knock Tesco staff into a cocked hat, and this isn't going to help.
