I left a sinking ship. As a line manager I lost love for the company. Take take take!! Teamleaders are the backbone of every department. I had 5 departments to manage, couldn't be done without teamleaders (especially while picking on a short staffed dot com department and serving on a short staffed checkout department) Line managers have to spend about 10hrs a week as 'duty managers'. Attend at least 3 meetings a day (longer on Mondays). Managers are paid 36hrs a week but are expected to work many more for free (Much much more at Christmas and Easter). The recession is what gives Tesco the power! They are taking advantage of the fact that there are no jobs out there, so they can treat people like s**t as they have no choice but to agree as they have bills to pay. I was never in USDAW as they always agree with Tesco and don't care about the 'colleagues'. Tesco wouldn't have started this without clearing it with USDAW first. So they won't help you. All I can suggest is stop paying useless USDAW, work to rule (managers too!) and get job hunting!!! Tesco has only one way to go and that's DOWN.
