Come on Mr Clarke.
The current structure works, we just need to have the roles and accountabilities re-affirmed
What has happened is that stores have distorted what our jobs are and working at the wrong level
We have put too much responsibility onto our team leaders, see the TL viewpoint results in most stores!!! line managers are focussing on the wrong things, we have become too number focussed and being beaten up for not delivering a number.
I am a line manager and have had 18 years with Tesco so far and have seen various changes some for the good and some not, this trial is not.
Senior teams seem lost and do not have the right focus, everyone seems to be scared and just run on a daily treadmill, pointless meetings that do not solve the issues.

You have too much duplication in Head Office with various project teams looking at the same this coming up with various solutions that don’t quite work, and in most cases they have no store experience and have no awareness of the impact their project will have.
Has anyone tried to park at Head Office? You will see just how much money is tied up there.

I would guess that we are running on payroll of around 7.3% which is why we struggle so much on a daily basis and have no flexibility to deal with changing trade etc.
I remember when we had payroll around 9% shops were full, clean, hardly any queues and happy customers who had staff they could ask for help.

Our core operating model has been stripped through Step Change over the years which is why we are not in this position.

Solution- Re-base our core operating model to understand what hours we need to deliver the routines, invest the payroll required to deliver the routines at the same time as being very clear on what our roles are.
Remove duplication across the office and have one team looking at each area.
Sit back and watch sales increase, share price increase, profit increase, customer satisfaction increase, loyalty increase, staff morale increase, unemployment decrease.

Please Mr Clarke listen to the people that run your shops on a daily basis, give us the payroll to put this company back where it belongs, your staff and our customers deserve better.
