Just got home after a twelve hour shift, and oh Im a manager who has been listening to my team leaders all day, not good I have to say. I took over 3 new departments at the last structure change, so I for one appreciate my team leaders and their role, just how I will manage without them I really do not know. If you wanted to drive morale to an all time low well what a great way to do it. I have been a manager working from shop floor up. I have read the comments and have to ask what stores do you work for? In my store the managers work 10-12 hour days and to see the inside of a canteen is a very lucky occasion. We can all blame the big bosses but really it is the economic climate that has driven our customers to shop in Aldi and Lidl and also we have just had a new Sainsburys and Lidl open near us, so we all need to be on our toes. I do think we have waste in our stores at different times, we had a lousy PI manager who kept his departments over hours whilst we had zilch, we had a PM who did nothing but stay in her office and not help on the shop floor at all, we also have a total waste better service manager, teaching us to suck eggs whilst the shop floor suffers, also a greeter who is a complete waste of time and money but they soon went, we havve also had managers who were new and did not do a good job but they soon went, the culture in our store is we do what we do to get the job done. Right hours right place, well what can we say about that. I believe we were told that we had to reallign our hours, lose hours if we were over, we were to take the lowest weeks takings and man our departments accordingly, what about when we get an upturn in trade, we all ask , we seem to have lost hours ever since, due to one thing or another. It is tougher than I have ever know it just how we will cope without the support of our team leaders well who knows, I surely dont. By the way I do not think the team leaders who commented here know the manager role very well, managers are tasked the hilt in Tesco today and I do not know of any that rest on their laurels.
