I'm a line manager, I'm both for and against this. I have a merchandise t/l who runs himself n one other! Why on earth do we need him? Waste of money, a non food t/l who manages two staff!

Yes senior team need to go in some places, what does a senior trading manager do that a line manager doesn't? We have no senior trading manager and if we manage without one then other stores can. We have no senior customer service manager, and we manage without one, so what do their roles do that us line managers don't? They aren't needed.

Cut away the dead wood and restructure senisibly. Pfs managers were cut from stores a few years ago, t/l run this dept, who will run it without a t/l? Services have up to six depts, a single line manager could not manage her role n t/l.

To be honest lots of slating about line managers, terrifying to be hated universally. Again there are bad managers and good. Not all managers are arrogant asses as being out across, same as not all t/l are hard working bunnies. I can think of three who abuse their t/l role in my store. Stronger leadership, get rid of ill performing managers, ill performing t/l and waste if money senior team and head office roles, let us run our shops as we are meant too instead of giving us penalising budgets we can't meet, impact on customer service and impact on morale. Head office n Clarke need a very large wake up call n need to listen to our staff in shops who have the exp to take business further
