For a company that seems to place so much importance and virtue on its B Corps status, it is truly worrying that Equinox would take this route to both downgrade their kombucha as a necessary move in terms of processing and filtering the product in order to make it stable to transit in porous polymer plastic lined aluminium cans.

And furthermore, as that mouthful of words used to describe what they are actually transiting their product in implies, they have zero scientific evidence to back up whether it is indeed safe to use such materials that can and have been shown to leach these chemicals - including the aluminium can itself - into active live products where the pH is low and acidity is high. Such as kombucha tea.

The conscientious and highly ethical GO Kombucha, which has been running for 20 years and only ever bottled in glass, recently published an incredibly damning investigation into the packing of kombucha into aluminium cans and why it should be avoided until the actual science is in either way, and it’s gaining enormous traction globally and well worth a read by all who consume a couple or more cans a day of kombucha in this medium. It can be found at:

How ironic that as soon as the word starts to go out that irresponsible companies are turning to cheaper packaging options like canning to save on costs and space, those that profess to be doing everything else right by becoming B Corps-accredited are making the move en masse to this potentially unsafe medium.
