The brewer of Bishop’s Finger and Spitfire ales has announced a rise in profits of more than a third (38.5%) for the past year.

Turnover at Shepherds Neame grew by 8.2% to £60.8m, with pre-tax profits hitting £4.9m.

All parts of the core business had performed well, according to chairman Miles Templeman, with the Kent-based brewer successfully consolidating recent investments.

“This has been a good trading period for the company, with record turnover, record beer volume and strong net cash inflow from operating activities,” Templeman said.

But he warned that consumer spending could be hit by rises in excise duty, VAT and other taxes.
