Sainsbury's newly redesigned store at London Colney, St Albans reflects the new atmosphere under Sir Peter. Store director Peter Smith says he has far more power to make local decisions based on what customers want. The store and carpark layout were chosen based on customer listening'  through focus groups and customer comments. The number of disabled and parent and child' spaces has been increased, and the store now offers 20 different trolley styles based on what customers wanted. An instore kitchen with a trained chef has proved popular, says Smith. And catering to the local community has meant an increased Well Being' health food/organic section, plus a kosher section for the Jewish community. A buddy' system is used to keep branches in touch with Head Office so any decisions made centrally reflect what's happening instore. {{NEWS }}
