Double Olympic gold medallist Dame Kelly Holmes is to front Sainsbury’s Active Kids campaign.
Dame Kelly will star in a TV advertisement for the initiative, which encourages fresh produce consumption and participation in sporting activities.
The ad airs first on March 12 and will be shown on terrestrial and satellite channels.
Sainsbury said Dame Kelly epitomised the joy of sport and she was the ideal candidate to inspire children all over the UK to follow her example. Dame Kelly said: “Sainsbury's Active Kids is a great scheme. I feel strongly that more kids should be offered the opportunity to try out fun activities.”
The scheme is designed to inspire pupils to get more active by providing equipment and activities that go beyond traditional PE.
Until June 30, every time customers spend £5 on fresh fruit and vegetables at Sainsbury they will receive one Active Kids voucher. Schools can redeem vouchers against a range of kit.
Sainsbury is hoping to increase fitness levels in the estimated 10 million children put off sport by the traditional curriculum. Nearly 6,000 schools have registered.
