A bottled beer from Singapore has joined Pierhead Purchasing's global imported beer portfolio to target the UK off-trade.
The 4.5% abv Anchor Smooth, from Singapore's Archipelago Brewery, was first created more than 70 years ago. The smooth-
flavoured and full-bodied Pilsner beer is considered to be an ideal accompaniment for south-east Asian dishes
Anchor has also built up a following among young professionals in Malaysia, Singapore, southern China and Cambodia, according to Pierhead. It has had good growth in Vietnam since its launch there in 2003.
"Superior flavour and strong branding has helped Anchor Smooth to
establish itself as one of
the market leaders in
south-east Asia," said
director of imported beer Michael Cook.
"With its success on
home turf and the strength of other Asian beers on the UK market, we are feeling confident that Anchor Smooth will prove popular here," he added.
