Wall’s is trialling a Solero-branded ‘ice-shake’ drink in selected outlets, The Grocer has learned.
Fruit ‘n’ Ice is a 170g bottle of exotic fruit juice with suspended sorbet ice particles. It is being tested in 23 convenience outlets over the summer.
The concept bridges the gap between fruit smoothies and ice cream, with consumers encouraged to shake the bottle to get the full refreshment of the drink.
The product is branded an ‘Exotic Fruit ice-shake’ by the Unilever subsidiary.
In 1999, Solero Shots, free-flowing citrus-flavoured ice spheres in resealable cartons, made their debut.
In 2003 another variant callled Get Fruit, containing 45% real fruit, was launched with a 5-a-day fruit and veg message.
Solero ice cream, which falls into the adult refresh category, has been driving new flavours and lower fat variants to tap into the consumer health trend, and the range now encompasses Exotic, Red Fruits and Orange Fresh (0% fat) flavours.
