A new season lamb range carrying the English Beef and Lamb Executive’s Quality Standard mark will go on sale in Somerfield stores at the end of this month.
The So Good-branded range is supplied by West Country producer Lloyd Maunder and is matured on the bone. Products include a stuffed boneless shoulder for roasting and cuts for quicker cooking such as loin chops. Prices start at £8.99 per kg.
Somerfield lamb buyer Tom Harvey said: “We’re making sure our customers know exactly where the lamb they are buying comes from by providing a unique traceability code on all packs. Using the Eblex Quality Standard mark gives our customers an easy way to check the product they’re buying meets high standards.”
Eblex said the launch of its advertising campaign for the Quality Standard mark had sparked a flurry of applications.
Head of marketing Andrew Garvey said: “We are delighted with the trade uptake, which is well ahead of target. We already have four major retailers signed up, 630 independent retailers, 200 suppliers and 46 catering butchers, as well as 80% of English beef and lamb producers.”
