A Scottish butcher is hoping for success with both independents and multiples.
Dunning-based Simon Howie Foods has teamed up with both Sainsbury and Spar wholesaler CJ Lang in two separate projects.
Wholesaler CJ Lang is offering a range of Simon Howie branded breakfast products, including black pudding and sliced haggis.
Graham Angus, national sales manager with Simon Howie, said the products included a breakfast pack for two, and two premium sausage offers, pork with herb and garlic, and pork with honey and mustard.
"CJ Lang identified gaps in its range and has been working with us to fill them. The sliced haggis is a new product for us, it's a convenient impulse purchase for independents."
Both companies are now following up the launch of the products, which have been available for three weeks now, with promotional activity.
"We are targeting all the bigger Spar members," said Angus. "We will be doing a price promotion in mid-July on a selection of the products."
He said Howie was also preparing to launch a summer barbeque range with speciality chicken products and mint and lamb burgers during July.
Meanwhile, the butcher's deal to supply JS meat counters was being expanded, said Angus.
"The initial trial started in two stores but developed into six. We are now rolling it out to all of Sainsbury's large stores in Scotland, so we will be in 15 by the end of July."
The agreement sees Simon Howie branded meat on all of the retailer's serveover meat counters, and Angus said it had worked with Sainsbury to offer a range specific to Scottish consumers.
