Waitrose has added 30 new own-label vegan and vegetarian products as it continues to build on its meat-free offering.
Waitrose Vegetarian Jackfruit Biryani, Vegan Mac and Greens and Vegan Moroccan Inspired Aubergine and Grain Bake, which uses cauliflower puree to emulate a ‘creamy texture’, are among the meals that have been created as part of the collection, which also comprises staple side dishes.
The move comes after the retailer - which has seen a 71% rise in sales of vegan and vegetarian products over the past twelve months - introduced more than 50 new lines in June.
“In line with this growing demand, we’re delighted to have developed an exclusive range of own-label vegan and vegetarian products to delight customers,” said Waitrose chilled vegetarian and vegan buyer Chloe Graves.

“The innovative dishes include complete meals for a quick and easy dinner, as well as staple side dishes, each proving that a vegan or veggie meal doesn’t have to compromise on flavour.”
Last month Waitrose became the latest major supermarket to commit to introducing ‘suitable for vegans’ labelling across its own-brand lines.
The retailer bowed to pressure from Animal Aid’s Mark It Vegan campaign, and will gradually roll out clear labelling for vegan products in its own-label portfolio.
