Carrefour has confirmed plans to open stores in various Scandinavian locations and has stated it will be entering the market in both Sweden and Denmark.

The French-based food retailer now has Norway’s NorgesGruppen as a partner to help it conquer Scandinavia, commencing with the first MenyChampion store to open in Norway in two weeks’ time, followed by a further four stores in the country shortly afterwards.

Once these have been established, the company does not rule out taking in Dia, its hard discount chain, and the Carrefour hypermarket brand itself, although it has been suggested the latter is too big for Norway.

Carrefour’s chief operating officer, Joel Saveuse has said that the company is already analysing Sweden to find out how many hypermarkets there will be room for when Carrefour enters the market.

The company also has plans to establish a joint headquarter for the three countries, which will incorporate a joint buying system.
