A clutch of top retailers has formed a working group to tackle security threats from e-mail viruses and fuel shortages to terrorist attacks.
Membership details have not been disclosed, but the group includes representatives from one of the multiple supermarkets as well as from the big names on the high street.
One of the aims of the group is to set a standard for business continuity plans throughout the retail industry. Survive, a business support group that exchanges information on disaster recovery, has overseen the group's formation.
Although retailers had contingency plans in place to tackle most issues, claimed Survive CEO Rod Fountain, their suppliers and support companies did not. "It doesn't matter how good your own plans are if businesses are collapsing around you. They could bring you down too."
