Retailers have reported slow half term trading and disappointing sales of Halloween merchandise, footfall analyst SPSL has revealed.

Tim Denison, director of SPSL, said: "Half term has not provided the boost to shopper numbers that we saw last year across the country."

"In particular, it seems that Halloween merchandise has been slow to move compared to last year and whenever seasonal non-essentials struggle to get consumers to part with their money, it is indicative of hard times."
