Unilever is aiming to consign chest-style ice cream units to retailing history with an eye-catching, three-tiered unit that makes consumers’ favourite brands easier to reach.
The temperature controlled Maxivision freezer will be available from July after an eight-week pilot in a handful of national forecourt outlets, where it increased sales of ice cream by 29%, according to sales support controller Peter Bolger. The new display unit, designed for convenience and forecourt outlets, maximises the visual impact of ice cream in store.
As well as point-of-sale material and illumination, the Maxivision also enables ice cream to be merchandised at eye level, making it, said Bolger, difficult to walk past.
The unit can also stock more ice cream. The bottom two shelves have double the capacity of a conventional ice cream cabinet but can reduce running costs by up to 15% as the units run on hydrocarbon propane gas.
However, retailers will have to dig deeper into their own reserves if they want to be selling out of the new unit this summer. The equipment costs £899 plus vat - nearly double the £499 plus vat for a standard 1.5 metre ice cream cabinet.
Both include £300 of Wall’s stock vouchers.
