Coffee-to-clothing retailer Tchibo is to scrap its concessions in Sainsbury's and Somerfield. The German chain has around 100 concessions in the supermarkets, but said it would end its association with Sainsbury's and Somerfield by the end of 2009 because of the weakening economic climate. Tchibo tied up with Somerfield in 2004 and with Sainsbury's in 2005, installing branded concessions selling a weekly changing range of non-food items. The chain is also considering closing its own 50-strong estate of stand-alone stores in the UK.
